LU Xiaojun won his second world weightlifting title in the men's 77-kilogram class when Chinese teammate Su Dajin failed on his last attempt in the clean and jerk in Paris on Thursday.
Lu, the 2009 winner and last year's runner-up, lifted 170 kilograms in the snatch and 205 in the clean and jerk to total 375. But he had to wait to be declared champion until Su was unable to clean 211 kilos while attempting a combined 377.
Su, the 2009 bronze medallist, lifted 166 in the snatch and 206 in the clean and jerk to total 372. Olympic champion Sa Jaehyouk of South Korea finished third.
Nadezda Evstyukhina of Russia set a world record in the clean and jerk to win the gold medal in the women's 75-kilogram division.
Evstyukhina lifted 163 kilos in the clean and jerk to beat her own previous mark of 162 set in April. The 2010 bronze medallist also snatched 130 kilos for a combined 293.
Defending champion Svetlana Podobedova of Kazhakstan took the silver medal with a 287 total.
