Manassero claims Malaysian Open

ITALIAN teenager Matteo Manassero eagled the par-5 10th hole yesterday to rally for a one-shot win over Frenchman Gregory Bourdy at the Malaysian Open.

Two days before his 18th birthday, Manassero shot a 4-under 68 in Kuala Lumpur to finish with a 16-under total of 272. Bourdy had eight birdies in a 67 that also included a double bogey and a bogey. Rory McIlroy settled for third, two shots back, after he had a double bogey on 12 and a bogey on the final hole to finish with a 69. The Northern Irishman had led after the second round as he tried to bounce back from his Masters collapse. Top-ranked Martin Kaymer of Germany was eight shots back in a tie for ninth while Masters champion Charl Schwartzel of South Africa finished another stroke behind after a 70.
