ANTHONY Mundine of Australia defeated Mexican fighter Rigoberto Alvarez in a unanimous points decision to claim the WBA interim world light middleweight title in Newcastle, Australia, yesterday. Mundine (43-4, 25 KOs) rarely looked troubled by Alvarez (27-4, 20 KOs) throughout the 12 rounds. The 36-year-old Mundine is now a prospect for a world title fight against undefeated Austin Trout of the United States.
