Nationals clinch division crown
DESPITE being beaten 2-0 by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night, the Washington Nationals earned their first division title since moving from Montreal in 2005, as the second-place Atlanta Braves lost 2-1 at the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In the American League, the Detroit Tigers held off the Kansas City Royals 6-3 to clinch the AL Central title. In Oakland, Coco Crisp's latest big hit helped put the Oakland Athletics back in the playoffs for the first time in six years after they beat the Texas Rangers.
