Newcastle's Barton denied US visa
NEWCASTLE midfielder Joey Barton will miss the Premier League club's preseason trip to the United States after being denied a visa because of his criminal record.
The 28-year-old Barton was jailed for 74 days of a six-month sentence after admitting assault and affray in 2008. Barton said yesterday on Twitter that the decision is "hypocrisy considering what they get up to, but rules are rules." He added: "they told me am not allowed in until I have 5yrs without any trouble. 3yrs down, 2yrs to go..." Newcastle leaves on Sunday to play three games in the United States.
