Nigeria upset Burkina Faso to win AFCON

NIGERIA ended the fairy-tale run by Burkina Faso with a 1-0 win to win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the National Stadium in Johannesburg last night.
The Super Eagles clinched the winner in the 40th minute when winger Sunday Mba flicked the ball over defender Mohamed Koffi to send it to the net with his other foot.
It is the third time for Nigeria to win the tournament. The previous two wins were in 1980 and 1994.
As Africa's most populous country, Nigeria has been a consistent exporter of talent to clubs worldwide.
Sitting at 92 on the FIFA rankings chart, Burkina Faso edged Ghana on penalties to secure their place in the gold medal match. It was only the second time for Burkina Faso to reach the semi-finals in their history.
Mali beat Ghana 3-1 in the third-place playoff in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
