Olympic champion out of Dauphine
SPAIN'S 2008 Olympic road race champion Samuel Sanchez was forced out of the Dauphine Libere race yesterday after a heavy fall.
The 34-year-old, who was named last Friday in the Spanish team for the London Olympics, came down in a mass crash 47km into the 187km first stage from Seyssins. The Euskaltel rider was unable to continue unlike the other riders who were involved such as Frenchman Pierrick Fedrigo. Australian Luke Durbridge leads after Sunday's prologue in what is a key warm-up race for the Tour de France.
