Rangers advance
THE Texas Rangers booked their place in a second straight World Series by crushing the Detroit Tigers 15-5 in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, taking baseball's American League championship series 4-2. Nelson Cruz set a postseason record with his sixth home run of the series and Michael Young hit a pair of two-run doubles in a nine-run third inning that set up the Rangers win. Becoming the first repeat AL champion in a decade, Texas will open the World Series on Wednesday at St Louis or Milwaukee, seeking the first title in the history of a franchise that started play in 1961.
