Runners cheat in race to win exam credits
MORE than 30 top runners at an international marathon in south China have had their results canceled after they cheated to get extra credits for college entrance examinations.
Judges found some of the 50,000 competitors rode vehicles during the January 2 marathon in Xiamen City, Fujian Province. Some carried more than one time-keeping microchip so they could register their time for others at the finish line.
Most of the cheats ran the race in less than two hours and 34 minutes, the minimum for students to gain extra credits for the competitive exams, today's Jiefang Daily reported.
The organizer of the event said they are still sifting evidence from microchips and cameras. If runners don't apologize, they will be excluded from further runs in Xiamen.
