Shanghai gets the nod for European horses
SHANGHAI has got the nod to host a Global Champions Tour show jumping event in June after the European Commission issued a ruling allowing European horses to compete.
The decision by the EC, which cited improved quarantine conditions in China, means Shanghai has overcome a significant hurdle, the Shanghai Administration of Sports said.
Horses registered in EU countries will be transported between Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Shanghai between May 20 to June 20. In China the animals must be held in pre-approved areas and under strict quarantine conditions if they are to be allowed to return.
The Shanghai event will be held from June 6-8 in front of the China Art Museum in the Pudong New Area. One of a series of 14 GCT legs to be held this year, it will feature some of the worlds’ best riders, all vying for a share of the 1 million euro (US$1.39 million) prize fund for the season.
