Shanghai leg of Spartan race series to be held on May 21
THE 2017 Infiniti Spartan Race will be held in six Chinese cities this year, its local operator SECA said. Of the eight races, the Shanghai race will be held on May 21.
Known as the world’s best obstacle race series, the Spartan Race made its debut in China for the first time last year. It staged four races which attracted more than 18,000 participants. This year, it expects around 35,000 participants.
Spartan Race includes the Spartan Sprint, the Super Spartan, the Spartan Beast and the Ultra Beast, which are varied in terms of route distance and the number of obstacles. The Shanghai race on May 21 will be held at Sunland Greenland in Pudong’s Waigaoqiao area. The Spartan Spring race is expected to attract over 6,000 participants, who will have to overcome over 20 obstacles along the 6km route.
Other Sprint races will be held in Hong Kong (April 22), Gaoxiong in Taiwan (May 20) and Beijing (June 24). Qingdao will be the new host city in the latter part of the year.
The organizers are planning to introduce Super Spartan races in Beijing, Taipei and Gaoxiong in the second half of the year. Super Spartan features 25 obstacles along a 13km route. A Spartan Junior race is also planned for Hong Kong to attract young participants.
The 2017 Infiniti Spartan Race reached cooperation agreements with over 40 gyms in the host cities to provide training for participants before the races.
The entry fee for the Shanghai race is 499 yuan (US$72.4) per person for public group and 529 yuan for elite group. Early birds can avail of a 130-yuan discount if they register before April 30. More information is available at www.spartanrace.cn.
