Shanghai to stage martial arts event
SHANGHAI will stage the first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition next year that will showcase Chinese skills.
The event, which will be held on March 5 at the Shanghai Grand Stage is backed by the Chinese Wushu Association and Ranik Ultimate Fighting Federation (RUFF). The organizers also gave a sneak preview to the media when two fighters were locked up in a cage to duel each other until one of them surrendered. They were free to use any style - grappling, kicking and striking. The competition will be of 5 rounds with each round no more than 5 minutes. "We would like to train a super Chinese martial arts fighter - a Yao Ming of Kung Fu," Lin Yanming, one of the founders of the RUFF, said.
