Spartan Race coming to Shanghai
SPARTAN Race, in China for the first time, has scheduled two races in Shanghai and Beijing on October 16 and October 30, respectively.
Known as the world’s best obstacle race series, Spartan Race includes the Spartan Sprint, the Super Spartan, the Spartan Beast and the Ultra Beast.
They are varied in terms of route distance and the number of obstacles. Only the primary race from the Spartan Sprint will be held in China this year to get the locals hooked on to a new event, local organizer SECA said yesterday.
Shanghai’s Spartan Sprint will be held at Dishui Lake in Pudong. Participants will challenge the 6-kilometer route covered by some 20 obstacles.
The obstacles vary from race to race, and the frequently presented ones include a fire jump, climbing under barbed wire, wall climbing, mud crawling, etc.
Failure to fully complete any obstacles results in a 30 burpee penalty. A participant can obtain a Trifecta medal after completing a Spartan Sprint, a Spartan Super and a Spartan Beast in a year’s time. SECA will introduce the latter two races, as well as the Spartan Junior race for children in the next few years.
The entry fee is 499 yuan (US$74.8) per person. Early birds can get a 40-yuan discount if they register between October 3 and 15 for the Shanghai race. More information on the race is available at www.spartanrace.cn.
