THE Shanghai Sports Bureau said yesterday that it had built 55 new community sports centers in the city, bringing the total number of such complexes to 316. The bureau will open 49 sports centers and stadiums to the public for free on the New Year's Day. Meanwhile, the bureau also confirmed that the Formula One China Grand Prix will be held on the April 15-17 weekend. Among the other sporting events scheduled for 2011 in the city are: The Kia X-Games Asia from April 28 to May 1 at the Jiangwan Stadium; the IAAF Diamond League on May 15 at the Shanghai Stadium; the 14th FINA World Championships from July 16 to 31 at the newly built Oriental Sports Center; the World Snooker Shanghai Masters in September at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium; the World Cyber Games Grand Final, also in September, at the Pudong New Area; the ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters at Qizhong Tennis Center from October 8 to 16, and the Toray Cup Shanghai International Marathon on December 4.
