Sydney boxer dies after fight

A Sydney boxer died after his family decided to turn off his life support system following injuries he received in a fight, it was reported Tuesday.

Davey Browne Jr died from a punch in a regional title fight in New South Wales. Browne's family made the decision to turn off his life support system following injuries sustained in his bout with Carlo Magali of the Philippines in Sydney on Friday night.

The 28-year-old father-of-two was knocked out 30 seconds from the scheduled end of his 12-round contest.

He initially regained consciousness but collapsed and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition suffering from brain injuries.

NSW minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the Combat Sports Authority would cooperate fully with the police in their investigation.

"My thoughts are with David's family and friends during this tragic time," Ayres said on Tuesday.
