Top players confirm for Shanghai event

THE top 44-ranked tennis players have confirmed their participation for the Shanghai Rolex Masters next month, the organizers of the event said yesterday.
The 44 players, including the top four Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and defending champion Andy Murray, will start from the first round and will be joined by seven others from the qualifying round along with four wildcard holders. Argentine veteran David Nalbandian, the 2005 winner, has been granted one of the wildcards while the other three will go to Chinese players. Some of the other players to have confirmed their participation are Robin Soderling, Andy Roddick, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gael Monfils, Nikolay Davydenko, and former world number ones Lleyton Hewitt and Juan Carlos Ferrero.
