Trophy for LGCT Shanghai GP unveiled
THE trophy for the Longines Global Champions Tour Shanghai Grand Prix was unveiled by organizers yesterday.
The five-star show jumping tournament will be held in front of the China Art Museum at Pudong’s Expo Park from today. The three-day event will gather some 60 top class riders from home and abroad along with their more than 100 horses.
The trophy, designed by Malaysia-based Royal Selangor, borrowed the idea from the shape of a horse’s ears, representing the fighting spirit of horses and bravery of the sport.
China has four riders competing in this year’s Shanghai tournament, including national champion Zhu Meimei.
The 24-year-old female rider has been coached by German legend Ludger Beerbaum, and spends seven to eight months a year in Germany for training.
“I can feel the pressure (with the competition coming), but I will surely give my best,” Zhu remarked yesterday.
Zhu will take part in today’s 2 Phases and Sunday’s 1.50/1.55m competitions. She made her debut at the LGCT in Shanghai last year, finishing 12th in the 1.45m 2 Phases competition.
