UCI bans cyclist

CYCLING'S governing body has stopped a cyclist who is serving a doping ban from attending a ceremony in which he would have been presented as a new member of the team. Movistar has now canceled the presentation of Spanish rider Alejandro Valverde, who won the 2009 Spanish Vuelta but is serving a two-year ban that expires in January after being implicated in a blood-doping ring.
