Vlasic to compete

WORLD high jump champion Blanka Vlasic of Croatia says she will compete at the world championships despite a leg injury. Vlasic says that despite a partially torn muscle in her left leg, she "could not bear watching the competition on television," tearfully adding she would feel "as if someone had a party, but did not invite me." The worlds start on August 27 in Daegu, South Korea. The women's high jump is scheduled for September 3. Vlasic has dominated the event since earning the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The 27-year-old won the 2007 world gold in Osaka and repeated the feat two years later in Berlin.
