Wang Mingjuan wins women's 48kg weightlifting gold
CHINESE veteran lifter Wang Mingjuan won the gold of the women's 48-kg contention with a total of 205kg at the Olympic Games yesterday.
Wang secured her first Olympic gold after lifting 110kg in her first attempt in clean and jerk. She then succeeded in her second attempt with 114kg, but failed to lift 116kg.
The 26-year-old Chinese, who remained unbeaten in international events since 2002, gained a commanding lead after winning the snatch in 91kg.
Japanese Hiromi Miyake finished second with a total of 197kg. She was determined to win the gold and claimed if she won a silver or bronze, she would throw it into Thames.
Ryang Chun Hwa from DPR Korea settled for the bronze with a total of 192kg.
