Yao's charity bid

THE Yao Foundation, a charity organization set up by Chinese basketball star Yao Ming, yesterday announced a three-year agreement with Marriott International in which the latter would donate 5 million yuan (US$815,000) to the foundation to build three Project Hope schools in southwest China. The money will also be used to support the foundation's youth basketball season program in the next two years. The foundation, set up in 2008, has helped more than 9,000 rural children aged between 6 and 14 by building 14 schools in the country, Yao said.
