Bears cut down Dolphins

THE Chicago Bears took over sole control of the NFC North after beating the Miami Dolphins 16-0 in Miami on Thursday for their third successive win.

The Bears are now 7-3, a game ahead of Green Bay (6-3), while the result severely damages the injury-ravaged Dolphins' hopes of making the playoffs after they slipped to 5-5.

Miami was without its two main quarterbacks with Chad Henne and Chad Pennington out with injuries picked up in last Sunday's win over Tennessee and so third-string Tyler Thigpen was pushed into action.

The result was a Miami offense that barely threatened Chicago and the Bears led 6-0 at half-time thanks to two field goals from Robbie Gould.

Miami's injury woes increased just before half-time when key receiver Brandon Marshall went off with a hamstring injury.

Marshall had made 41 yards on three receptions prior to his injury but was handed a 15-yard penalty after throwing the ball at Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

Without his main outlet and with little protection from his offensive line, Thigpen struggled after the interval and the Bears put the game beyond Miami when a three-yard touchdown run from Matt Forte.
