Brady denies 鈥楪aroppolo celebrations鈥

There was no celebrating backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo being traded by the New England Patriots in October, Tom Brady said on Tuesday.

Brady denied he was 鈥渆xcited, hollering and cajoling鈥 at the team facility when he learned New England shipped his heir apparent out of town in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers, which is contrary to a report published in ESPN The Magazine. 鈥淚 think that鈥檚 just such a poor characterization of anything. In 18 years, I鈥檝e never celebrated when someone has been traded, been cut,鈥 Brady told WEEI radio in Boston. 鈥淚 would say that鈥檚 disappointing to hear that someone would express that, or a writer would express that, because it鈥檚 so far from what my beliefs are about my teammates.

鈥淚 think I鈥檓 very empathetic toward other people鈥檚 experiences. I know those situations aren鈥檛 easy. I鈥檝e never been traded or released, but I can imagine how that might feel. I would never, ever feel that way about when Jimmy got traded, when Jacoby (Brissett) got traded (last season to the Colts). I鈥檝e kept in touch with all those guys. When Matt Cassel was gone. All these guys I鈥檝e worked with, I felt like I had such a great relationship with all the quarterbacks I鈥檝e worked with. I kept in touch with basically everybody. So to characterize that as a certain way is just completely, completely wrong.鈥

Brady, 40, was allegedly at the nexus of a rift involving coach Bill Belichick, owner Robert Kraft and the Patriots鈥 17-year starting quarterback. As outlined by ESPN, Kraft demanded a trade of Garoppolo to appease Brady. Belichick obliged.
