Broncos face Seahawks in Super Bowl

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos will face the best defense they’ve met all season when they play Richard Sherman’s Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
It will be a matchup between the NFL’s No. 1 offense, led by Manning, against the NFL’s No. 1 defense led by Sherman, when the AFC’s Broncos (15-3) take on the NFC’s Seahawks (15-3) on February 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
In a 26-16 victory over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game on Sunday, Manning was pretty much flawless, going 32 of 43 for 400 yards with two touchdowns.
“Peyton played great today,” Brady acknowledged.
And now, inevitably, the two-week buildup until the Super Bowl will be mainly about Manning, just as this entire season has. He is, after all, the player who set NFL records by throwing for 55 touchdowns and 5,477 yards, helping Denver lead the league with 37.9 points and 457.3 yards per game.
Against the Patriots, Manning’s offense scored on six consecutive possessions, accounted for more than 500 yards, had zero turnovers and zero sacks.
“It’s very rewarding when you put in so much hard work and it pays off with the win in a big game,” Manning said.
“We’ve kept our nose to the grindstone, kept persevering and it feels great to get this win.”
Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson is in his second season and looking for his first Super Bowl trophy.
“Any time you get to the Super Bowl,” Wilson said after Seattle beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-17, “it’s a special time.”
Seattle’s defense, led by Sherman, allowed an average of 14.4 points and 273.6 yards this season, both best in football. That unit also led the NFL in takeaways. On Sunday, the Seahawks forced three turnovers in the fourth quarter alone.
