CAFL's first championship game "China Bowl" to be held at Oriental Sports Center
CHINA Arena Football League will stage the inaugural “China Bowl” at Pudong’s Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai on Sunday that will bring down the curtain on what has been a rather successful debut season.
The league’s first championship game will be played at 3pm with Beijing Lions (5-0) taking on Qingdao Clippers (3-2). Undefeated Beijing is the favorite to lift the title. Its head coach Clint Dolezel used the CAFL draft to pick an experienced US lineman around which he built his patented short, crisp, quick passing game. Blockers Neal Tivis and Wayne Tribue are among the many familiar faces from the coach’s Philadelphia Soul teams.
Qingdao will be looking to halt Beijing’s unbeaten run. It is led by one of the CAFL’s oldest, but perhaps best, quarterback in veteran Bryan Randall.
On Saturday, Dalian Dragon Kings (0-5) will battle for the 5th place against Shenzhen Naja in a 2pm match. At 7pm, hosts Shanghai Skywalkers will take on Guangzhou Power in a battle for the 3rd place.
Shanghai owns the league’s most dynamic offensive trio -- quarterback Shane Austin, who is surrounded by two all-around threats in Mike Washington and Shane Kauleinamuku. Both line up as wide receivers, but are key to head coach Derek Stingley and Offensive Coordinator John Lyles strategies.
The venue can hold 18,450 people. Ticket price ranges from 50 yuan (US$7.4) to 500 yuan.
