Cardinals seal playoff bye

ARIZONA clinched a bye in the first round of the National Football League playoffs by beating Green Bay 38-8 on Sunday, sacking Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers eight times and returning two of his fumbles for touchdowns.
On the penultimate Sunday of the season, other key results saw Atlanta beat Carolina to inflict a first loss of the season on the Panthers, while the New York Jets kept their playoff hopes alive with an overtime win against New England.
Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns for Arizona (13-2), while Cory Redding rambled in from 36 yards with one of the fumbles for a score and Jerraud Powers took the other five yards for a TD.
Green Bay is home against Minnesota in its regular-season finale next Sunday, with the NFC North title at stake. Both teams have 10-5 records.
Carolina’s bid for an undefeated season ended when Julio Jones’ dramatic 70-yard touchdown reception powered Atlanta to a 20-13 victory.
Carolina (14-1) had a chance to force overtime when it got the ball with 90 seconds left and no timeouts remaining. Cam Newton completed a 19-yard pass on first down but fumbled on the following play and Adrian Clayborn recovered the ball for the Falcons, wrapping up the win.
Matt Ryan threw for 306 yards and one TD for the Falcons (8-7), and Devonta Freeman ran for 73 yards with a TD.
New York’s Eric Decker took a 6-yard touchdown catch on the first drive of overtime — after New England (12-3) chose to kick off — to give the Jets a 26-20 win against the Patriots.
A win next week at Buffalo will give the Jets (10-5) a wildcard berth.
Minnesota clinched a playoff berth with a 49-17 win against the New York Giants in frigid conditions while Kansas City sealed its playoff place and recorded a team record-tying ninth straight win by beating Cleveland 17-13.
