Cowboys鈥 Elliott wins legal challenge, cleared to play

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott won the latest legal round of his battle with the National Football League on Tuesday, earning a temporary freeze of his six-game ban which will allow him to play this weekend.

An appeals court in New York found in favor of the 22-year-old after the NFL Players Association challenged a court order last week which allowed the player鈥檚 suspension to take effect. 鈥淭he National Football League shall be temporarily restrained and enjoined from enforcing Ezekiel Elliott鈥檚 six-game suspension pending further hearings,鈥 the court ruling said. The decision was the latest twist to the court-room saga surrounding Elliott, who was banned by the NFL over allegations of assaulting an ex-girlfriend. The punishment was handed down by Commissioner Roger Goodell on August 11 after a 13-month league investigation. But Elliott, the fourth overall selection in the 2016 draft, was never arrested nor charged by police in the incident. With the case in court, Elliott has played five games for the Cowboys this season. Tuesday鈥檚 decision means he is now able to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
