Cutler rallies Bears to stunning win over Chargers
THE Chicago Bears erased a nine-point third-quarter deficit to shock San Diego 22-19 on Monday, handing the Chargers a fifth straight National Football League defeat.
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler hit tight end Zach Miller for the game-deciding, 25-yard touchdown with 3:19 to play.
Miller’s one-handed grab over the middle helped Chicago snap a two-game skid.
Rookie running back Jeremy Langford rushed over for the two-point conversion, the Bears (3-5) taking the lead for the first time in the game by what proved to be the final margin.
Langford also plunged for a one-yard fourth-quarter touchdown that capped a 93-yard, 15-play drive and pulled Chicago within 16-14 with 14 minutes left to play.
Culter completed 27 of 40 passes for 345 yards and two touchdowns.
His first touchdown throw of the night, to Martellus Bennett in the second quarter, was Cutler’s 138th with Chicago, breaking Hall of Famer Sid Luckman’s club record that had stood for a remarkable 65 years.
Cutler also gave up a fumble and an interception.
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers completed 26 of 42 passes for 280 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
It was the first time in six games that he failed to throw for at least 300 yards.
But the injury-ravaged Chargers — who saw a dozen players exit early in last week’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens — fell to 2-7 heading into their bye week. Their five-game losing streak is their longest since they dropped six in a row in 2011.
