Patriots get boost as Gronkowski practices

THE New England Patriots got a boost on Thursday as tight end Rob Gronkowski practiced for the first time since suffering an ankle injury two weeks ago, but the team said it was too soon to say whether he would be fit for Sunday's Super Bowl.

The record-setting tight end, who arrived in Indianapolis wearing a supportive ankle boot this week, was on the field for the second half of New England's nearly two-hour session, which was his first practise since suffering a high ankle injury in the January 22 American Football Conference Championship game.

"He did some things. He didn't do everything," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. "We'll see how he is tomorrow."

Gronkowski, 22, set National Football League records for a tight end with 1,327 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns this season.
