Payton鈥檚 Saints deal

SEAN Payton has agreed terms on a five-year contract extension with the National Football League’s New Orleans Saints, a deal that will keep him with the club through the 2020 season.

Payton, whose 10 years coaching the Saints included a 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the 2010 Super Bowl, would reportedly be paid US$54 million under the terms of the deal. Payton, 52, made US$8.5 million a season in his prior deal, which was to expire next year. He is 93-61 overall, including a 6-4 playoff record, with the Saints. Payton was suspended for the 2012 season in connection with the NFL bounty investigation. The Saints are in talks with quarterback Drew Brees about a proposed four-year contract extension that would keep him with the team through 2020. Brees has one year left on his current contract, with an NFL-high salary cap hit of US$30 million for 2016.
