Ravens' Lewis set to retire at end of season
RAY Lewis, who is in his 17th season in the National Football League, announced on Wednesday that he is retiring at the end of the Baltimore Ravens' season.
The 37-year-old Ravens linebacker was placed on the injured list after tearing his right triceps in October. He began practising with the team on December 5 but has yet to play in a game since suffering the injury.
The Ravens host the Indianapolis Colts in an American Football Conference wildcard game on Sunday. Lewis hopes to play in that game.
The future hall of famer is considered the heart and soul of the Ravens' franchise. He played college for Miami-Florida University and was the MVP of Super Bowl XXXV. Lewis is also a two-time defensive player of the year. Lewis has 41 1/2 career sacks, 31 interceptions and was named to 13 Pro Bowl teams.
