Ravens and Jets make the playoffs
THE Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets wrapped up playoff berths on the final day of the regular season on Sunday but the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers were eliminated.
The Ravens (9-7) used a 21-13 win over the Oakland Raiders (5-11) to grab one of two AFC wildcard spots and end the slim post-season hopes of the Steelers (9-7), who had earlier beaten the Miami Dolphins (7-9) 30-24.
The Jets (9-7) clinched their postseason spot with a 37-0 victory over the playoff-bound Cincinnati Bengals (10-6) in the final game of the NFL regular season.
"At 4-6 (record) to start with, we had a mission with our team," said Jets coach Rex Ryan of the team's up-and-down season. "We said 'impossible.' Then it went to improbable, then it went back to impossible, then it became inevitable."
The victory set up a postseason rematch with the Bengals in Cincinnati.
In Seattle, Chris Johnson became the sixth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season, then scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run with 4:33 remaining, leading the Tennessee Titans past Seattle 17-13.
Johnson ran 36 times - three short of Earl Campbell's franchise record set in 1981 - for 134 yards and both touchdowns for the Titans.
In Glendale, Arizona, Aaron Rodgers, playing mostly against the Arizona reserves, shredded the Cardinals in three quarters, completing 21 of 26 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown as Green Bay won 33-7.
In Minneapolis, Brett Favre passed for 316 yards and four touchdowns without a turnover in less than three quarters as the Vikings stomped the New York Giants 44-7.
The Vikings earned the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. The New Orleans Saints are the top seed in the NFC.
In other games, it was Chargers 23, Redskins 20; Bills 30, Colts 7; and Panthers 23, Saints 10;
