Saints handed 1st loss of the season

ATLANTA'S Matt Bryant nailed a 46-yard overtime field goal that gave the Falcons a 27-24 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday after the defending Super Bowl champions squandered a chance to win the game.

The Saints forced overtime when Garrett Hartley booted a 32-yard field goal with four seconds left on the clock but blew their chance to steal the victory when Hartley failed with his next attempt from 29 yards. It was the second straight win for the Falcons (2-1) and the first loss in three games this season for the Saints (2-1), who won the Super Bowl for the first time in February and were already starting to flex their muscle.

Kansas City (3-0) and Pittsburgh (3-0) kept their perfect records intact with a pair of blowout victories while Minnesota (1-2) and Dallas (1-2) both chalked up their first wins after dropping their first two games.

The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Detroit Lions 24-10 on the back of two touchdowns from Adrian Peterson, including one 80-yard run, while receiver Roy Williams scored two touchdowns in the Dallas Cowboys' 27-13 win over the Houston Texans.

Quarterback Matt Cassel threw three touchdowns and the Kansas City Chiefs overturned a halftime deficit to overcome the struggling San Francisco 49ers 31-10 and win their first three games of a season for the first time in seven years.

Charlie Batch, making his first start in three years, threw three touchdown passes in the first half as the Pittsburgh Steelers handed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers their first loss of the season, 38-13.

Tom Brady, coming off last week's loss to the New York Jets, threw for three touchdowns as the New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills 38-30.

The Tennessee Titans took advantage of a slew of sloppy plays by the New York Giants and romped to a 29-10 victory while quarterback Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens emerged from their offensive slumber to defeat the winless Cleveland Browns 24-17.

Tennessee intercepted two Eli Manning passes, one thrown while the Giants were threatening from the three-yard line, recovered a fumble on the five to thwart another scoring drive and were credited with a safety on an illegal pass protection block in the end zone. Flacco completed 22 of 31 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns to Anquan Boldin for the Ravens, who averaged just 10 points a game during the first two weeks of the season.

New Orleans led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 21-17 after the third but fell behind in the fourth after Matt Ryan's 22-yard touchdown pass to Roddy White with 9:20 left.
