Australians win city鈥檚 vertical race
AUSTRALIAN runners Mark Bourne and Suzy Walsham won the men’s and the women’s version of The SHKP Vertical Run at the Shanghai International Financial Center early yesterday.
Bourne and Walsham climbed the 1,460 steps of Shanghai IFC building and reached the finish line on the 57th floor in 7 minutes 55 seconds, and 9 minutes 19 seconds, respectively. Both pocketed 12,500 yuan (US$2,043) in prize money.
“Each architecture is different, so is our race track, that’s what I like about vertical marathon,” Walsham said.
The Shanghai race is the seventh stop of the eight-leg Vertical World Circuit, featuring 1,200 runners. Employees from over 50 enterprises and organizations also took part in the Corporate Relay Race and Fun Climb race. All collections will be donated to the Shanghai Children’s Health Found.
Hong Kong will be the circuit’s last stop on December 7, when the champions will be named from the points collected from all the eight legs — New York, Paris, Benidorm, San Polo, Taipei and Beijing.
