Bolt can't wait to get back home

USAIN Bolt, fresh from his second successive triple gold haul at the Olympics, could be forgiven for giving off the vibe of someone pining to return to his Jamaican home for a well-deserved rest.

Bolt set the London Games alight, swatting aside pretenders to blaze to victories in the 100m and 200m, and then anchoring his team home in the 4x100m relay.

"I achieved all my goals for this year. I came here to do what I love the most: compete," Bolt said in Zurich, Switzerland.

"But I'm counting the days until when I'll be home. I'm not sure whether I will have much time to relax, though. There will be some appearances. But I will be home, which is the most important thing. I will be with my friends and my family. I will have time to play video games, I will skip training. I will be enjoying just being me."

Bolt again stressed that the 2012 season had not been about bettering his own world records of 9.58sec and 19.19sec in the 100m and 200m, respectively.

"Records will always be improved, but nobody can take medals and titles away from you," the 26-year-old said.

"This year, it was all about the Olympics. I was focusing on winning the titles in London, not so much about running fast times. But it's quite possible, that at some point, I could decide to work on running fast, and see whether I can get to another record."

Bolt has also been the key cog in the Jamaican relay team that has won four; three in world-record times. "After the season, I will sit down with my coach, and we will decide on what we will work on for next year," he said. "I am not sure yet, whether that might be the 400m or the long jump."

Bolt added that there would be a season-by-season approach to his immediate future. "Between now and the next Olympic Games, anything can happen," he said. "This is track and field. There will be two World Championships before then. I will take it year by year, and try to stay fit in the process. I am not even sure what events I will concentrate on next year."
