Cuba denies Robles shot at worlds
DAYRON Robles, the 2008 Olympic champion and former 110-meter hurdles world record holder, was axed from the world championships on Friday after his bitter fallout with Cuba's athletics federation was not resolved.
"Cuba has not authorized Dayron to compete due to problems with discipline and his sporting ethics," Alberto Juantorena, the president of the Cuban Athletics Federation told the Trabajadores newspaper.
The 26-year-old Robles had said in January that he would not take part in August's world championships in Moscow.
Robles failed to complete the Olympic final in London last summer with Aries Merritt taking his title.
The American then broke the Cuban's world record with 12.80 seconds later in the year.
Robles is also a former world indoor champion and claimed the Diamond League in 2011.
Meanwhile, it was revealed on Friday that Robles has signed a deal with Monaco club which will allow him to run in international meetings.
"We understand the decision of the Cuban federation. It was the decision of Dayron," the hurdler's agent Tony Campbell said.
"He told the federation that he did not want to run for Cuba. The only thing for us to do was to find a club. He has now had a license for a week."
