AMERICAN hurdler Lolo Jones won the women's 100-meter hurdles on Monday in a world-leading 12.47 seconds at the Vardinoyiannia track meet in Rethimno, Crete.
Jones, who fell in the semifinals at the US trials and failed to qualify for next month's world championships in Berlin, controlled the race from the start and ran close to her personal best of 12.43.
"This was my fifth race in a week and I am happy I won," Jones said, adding that an injury sustained earlier this year had affected her performance.
American hurdler Damu Cherry finished second in 12.53. Canada's Priscilla Lopes-Schliep who had held this year's fastest time (12.52) finished fourth behind Jamaica's Delloreen Ennis-London. Both were timed at 12.60.
Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas also ran a world-leading time, winning the women's 200 in 22.33.
Ferguson-McKenzie was not seriously challenged in the race after Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica pulled out, saying she was still bothered by a cramp sustained after she won the 100 at Athens a week ago.
Campbell-Brown was also scheduled to run the 100, which won by Carmelita Jeter of the United States in 10.97.
