Injured Blake may skip Shanghai meet

REIGNING world 100-meter champion Yohan Blake could be out for up to six weeks after suffering a right hamstring injury during the UTech Classic track and field meet in Kingston at the weekend.
Blake, who won 100 gold at the 2011 world championships in Daegu, South Korea, could miss the Jamaica International Invitational on May 4 and the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Shanghai two weeks later, his coach Glen Mills told media.
Midway through his opening 100 race of the season, Blake, who got off to a wobbly start, grabbed his right hamstring before slowing down. He walked off the track and was met by attendants. He originally thought it might be a cramp.
About 30 minutes after the race, Blake tweeted "am good my twitter family just a cramp."
Mills though said it was much worse.
"An MRI done on Monday afternoon revealed the hamstring injury sustained was more serious than first thought and Blake could be out for several weeks as he recuperates," Mills was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Blake's compatriot Usain Bolt will headline the Diamond League meeting at London's Olympic Stadium in July, returning to the scene of his clean sweep of sprint gold medals at the 2012 Games.
The Jamaican sprinter will compete in the 100 and the 4x100 relay at the two-day meeting on July 26-27, which marks the anniversary of the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. "I'm looking forward to coming back to the UK, especially with it being a year since winning three gold medals in the Olympic Stadium," Bolt said.
It will be his final major meeting before the world championship in Moscow starting on August 10.
