Injured Shkolina out

World high jump champion Svetlana Shkolina of Russia will be unable to defend her title due to an Achilles tendon tear. Shkolina injured herself while competing at the Russian national championships yesterday and will be out for several months, missing the world championships which start in Beijing on August 22. The 29-year-old Shkolina won the world title in Moscow two years ago with a jump of 2.03 meters.
