Laureus awards

THE Sixth Laureus China top 10 awards for athletes will be announced on Tuesday in Xiangshan, Zhejiang Province. Liu Xiang, who made an eye-catching comeback during the 2011 world championships in South Korea and won the silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles, will compete for the best male athlete title while French Open champion Li Na will be the favorite for the best female athlete honor. She became the first Asian to capture a tennis grand slam singles crown. The best newcomer award is expected to go to Sun Yang, a young swimmer who won the men's 800-meter and 1,500-meter titles at the 14th FINA world championships held in Shanghai earlier this year.
