Liu sweats on fitness for world title defense
CHINA'S 110m hurdles world champion Liu Xiang has confirmed he will only attempt to defend his title in Berlin later this year if his foot has fully recovered, local media reported today.
The 25-year-old former world record holder underwent surgery in December on the injured foot that denied him chance of winning a second consecutive Olympic gold medal at last year's Beijing Games.
Liu, who has not run since pulling out of the Olympic heats last August, said he hoped to return to the track this year but raised doubts over his participation in Germany.
"It is still uncertain," Liu told state television. "Even if I go to Berlin, I may not be in the best form."
The world championships run from August 15-23.
