Marathon to take a new route
THIS year's Shanghai International Marathon has a new route. It will cross the Huangpu River and connect with attractions in both Puxi and Pudong to show a broader view of the city, local organizers said yesterday.
Starting point for the 2010 Toray Cup Shanghai International Marathon will still be the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall in Huangpu District but the destination for the race, and the half-marathon, would be the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in the Pudong New Area.
"The new course would connect the city's landmarks including the new Bund and the China Pavilion, which would be kept after the Expo, to show the diversified charms of the city," said Chen Yiping, deputy director of Shanghai Sports Bureau.
Chen said it was the first time the race had been run on both sides of the river.
