Millions earned before commercial contracts came to an end

SPONSORSHIP deals between 2004 to 2012 have earned a total of 533.73 million yuan, half for Liu Xiang and the rest for the national sports bureau’s track and field management center, his coaching team and Shanghai Sports Bureau.
Liu’s income of 23 million yuan in 2004 made him fifth on the Forbes income list of Chinese celebrities. In 2007, Liu’s commercial income reached 163.2 million yuan (US$26.3 million), ranking third in a list led by basketball player Yao Ming (387.8 million) and actor Jet Li (240 million).
By 2014, however, most of his commercial contracts had come to an end.
