Powell feels no pain, should be ready for world trials
FORMER 100 meters world record holder Asafa Powell has returned home to Jamaica and should be ready for the country's world championships trials after a weekend scare, his manager said yesterday.
Powell pulled up lame after just 20 meters of a 100 meters race in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday after feeling a cramp in his right lower hamstring.
But his manager Paul Doyle said it was just a precaution and he planned to run in the Jamaican trials in Kingston from June 23-26.
"He feels no pain or tightness in the leg and should be all set for the trails," Doyle said in an email.
Powell must finish in the top three against a high quality field to make the Jamaican team for the world championships in Daegu, South Korea, starting in August.
Jamaican world record holder Usain Bolt has a bye to the world championships leaving at least six others, including Powell, contendings for the remaining three spots in the team.
