RUSSIA won the European Team Championships in Bergen, Norway, on Sunday, helped by the fastest time this year in the women's 4x400 relay.

Kseniya Zadorina, Natalya Ivanova, Natalya Antyukh and Kseniya Ustalova won the relay in 3 minutes, 23.76 seconds.

Russia's men and women finished with 379.5 points, ahead of Britain on 317 and Germany on 304.5. Ukraine's Viktor Kuznyetsov won the men's triple jump with a personal best of 17.26 meters.

France's Teddy Tamgho was third with 17.10, just a week after jumping 17.98 in the Diamond League.

There was also a surprise in the javelin, with Germany's Mattias De Zordo throwing 83.80 meters to beat world and Olympic champion Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway, who was second with 82.98.

Russia's women performed strongly across both days, with Tatyana Dektyareva winning the 100 hurdles in Europe's leading time of 12.86.

Dwain Chambers of Britain won the men's 100 in 9.99 on Saturday.

The European Team Championships is the successor to the European Cup. One athlete from each country competes in each of the 20 men's events and 20 women's events, with 12 points going to the winner, and points are awarded all the way down through to one point for last place.
