Russian Lashmanova wins women's 20km walk with new world record
RUSSIAN Elena Lashmanova improved the world record by six seconds to win the gold medal of the women's 20km walk race yesterday at the London Olympic Games.
Lashmanova raced one hour and 25.02 minutes as she overtook compatriot Olga Kaniskina down the stretch.
The old world record of 1:25.08 was set by Russia's Vera Sokolova in 2011.
Kaniskina, who led for most of the race, timed 1:25.09 for the silver, while China's Qieyang Shijie took the bronze by 1:25.16.
