OFFICIALS said yesterday they were investigating the death of a 19-year-old former Queensland state gymnastics champion who suffered head injuries following a training accident. Australian safety officials said Michelle Maitland fell from a two-foot high "tumble track" on Thursday while competing in an adult gymnastics class. She was admitted to Townsville General Hospital in critical condition, but succumbed on Friday.
