Lee, Saina win in Indonesia

WORLD No. 1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia won the men's singles title at the US$250,000 Indonesia Super Series yesterday, defeating Indonesian ace Taufik Hidayat.

Lee's jumping smashes highlighted a 21-9, 21-14 victory over former world and Olympic champion Taufik.

After exchanging services in the first half of the opening game, Lee took over the rallies and collected six points in a row to claim the first game.

Taufik led 7-1 in the second and looked like squaring the match before Lee fought back, again claiming six consecutive points. After a series of exchanging services, Lee repeated his six-point surge to set up victory.

It was the third Super Series title of the year for Lee, who also won in Malaysia and Switzerland.

In the women's singles final, India's rising star and last year's world junior champion Saina Nehwal came from behind to overpower Wang Lin of China 12-21, 21-18, 21-9.

It was India's first-ever Super Series title.

In a thrilling 49-minute final, world No. 8 Nehwal came from behind to outsmart world No. 3 Wang and avenge her Singapore Super Series loss last week.

Nehwal took time to get into her groove as she struggled to gauge Wang's game-plan in the first game. But the Indian ace fought her way back in the second game. She leveled the score at 5-5 and then moved together with her Chinese rival till 17-17 before surging ahead to pocket the second game 21-18. The third game was a much easier affair as the Indian romped to victory.

In the mixed doubles, China's Zheng Bo and Ma Jin defeated Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung of South Korea 21-17, 8-21, 21-16, making it three straight Super Series titles for the pair after victory in Switzerland and Singapore.

But China suffered defeat in the women's doubles, as Malaysia's Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei Hui outclassed Chen Shu and Zhao Yunlie 21-16, 21-16.

China was also on the wrong end of the men's doubles final, as South Korea's Lee Yong-dae and Jung Jae-sung defeated Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun, 21-15, 21-16. The South Korean pair also won the opening Super Series event in Malaysia.
