Lee makes winning return in HK

MALAYSIA'S world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has made a winning return to badminton at the Hong Kong Open after recovering from a knee injury.

The 27-year-old Olympic silver medallist enjoyed a straightforward 21-9, 21-12 victory over local Ng Wei in the first round of the US$250,000 Super Series event.

"I rested for almost two months and this is the first tournament ... now the injury is better," Lee said after yesterday's match.

"Today I felt everything was fine. The injury did not affect my movement. But I am ... scared of getting injured again. So I'll just try my best to do well here."

In another men's singles match, China's Bao Chunlai beat Hu Yun of China's Hong Kong 21-13, 17-21, 21-11.

In the women's event, top seed Wang Lin of China beat Zhang Beiwen of Singapore 20-22, 21-16, 21-14 and Wang Shixian, also of China, overcame fourth seed Dane Tine Rasmussen 21-16, 21-18.

China's Jiang Yanjiao, Lu Lan, Wang Yihan all advanced to the next round.
