Lee prepares to retake All-England title

Lee Chong Wei’s supporters will be hoping that his bid to regain the All-England Open title is not his last attempt at the world’s oldest tournament at Britain’s National Indoor Arena.

“I don’t know whether I can last until 2016 for the Olympics in Rio,” he said in January. “I just cannot imagine how I would fare in three years’ time,” Lee, who will be 33, added.

His chances is boosted by   Lin Dan’s absence.

“The absence of Lin Dan does not mean Chong Wei can win the title hands down,” Lee’s coach Rashid Sidek said.

“Other players, especially younger ones from China, are equally capable.” Sidek was referring to Wang Zhengming, a 24-year-old from Guangzhou, and Tian Houwei, a 22-year-old from Fuzhou, or perhaps even Du Pengyu, the seventh seed.

The biggest danger is likely to be Chen Long, who beat Lee in the finals of the Denmark Open and the Korean Open.
